At the Beach with an Argentine Girl and in a Nightclub. Drunk Girls Behind the Wheel!

In the afternoon we go to the beach with Dana (24), an Argentine girl staying in our hostel room. There we also meet Antonio and Katya. Dana, who works as an accountant back home, had gone the night before to the elite nightclub Cocobongo, where the entrance fee is about 60 dollars—although in her case the ticket was paid for by some Mexican friends.
It’s worth mentioning that we hadn’t originally planned to visit Playa del Carmen at all. However, a New Zealander we met at the hostel in Mérida recommended it, saying that the beach here has beautiful three-colored sea water.
Interestingly, most of the staff at the Playa del Carmen hostel also seem to be from Argentina. They even sell Argentinian empanadas, although at quite a salty price—25 pesos per piece. Here we also run into the Chinese guy with the wide smile from the Mérida hostel again. It seems that a good smile can really take you far.
Even though it’s Sunday evening, Dana suggests that we go out again that night—and we do. First we go to one club where entry is free for everyone, but women also receive one free drink. Later we move on to another place on the beach, where thanks to Dana we also get in for free, and where women can get free drinks from a separate bar. Apparently this is quite a common practice here.
Later at night, after Dana and Gertrud have already left, I meet three Mexican girls. They are studying biochemistry in the first year of their master’s program at a university in the city of Córdoba, which has about 140,000 inhabitants (for comparison, Tartu has around 100,000).
We walk along the beach, and at some point a talkative local man approaches us and explains that he is wandering around alone in the moonlight because of a broken heart.
Eventually we manage to shake him off.
Around 4–5 in the morning, the girls say they should go sleep at a friend’s place because they have a seminar in the morning. To my surprise, it turns out they actually came to the city by car.
So I help them figure out who among them is the most sober. The winner is the girl who can still touch her nose with a straight arm when tested from the side.
Although my hostel is only a couple of blocks away, they give me a ride in their car.
At least during that short trip, they manage not to crash.
